Catholic policeman who survived a dissident republican bomb attack has had his right leg amputated, police confirmed.

Peadar Heffron, 33, underwent major surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast yesterday.

He had just left his home outside Randalstown, Co Antrim, to start work in west Belfast when the device exploded under his blue Alfa Romeo car early last Friday morning.

A police spokeswoman said: "His condition remains critical but stable."

As captain of the Police Service of Northern Ireland's gaelic football team and a fluent Irish speaker, Pc Heffron represents the changing face of a service which is steadily redressing a traditional religious imbalance in policing north of the border.

This week PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott described the recently-married officer as a man of great courage.

"He is a modern-day hero, he is someone who has stepped out, someone who is doing the right things for everybody," he said.

Mr Baggott said he was confident the attack would not dissuade other recruits from a nationalist background from joining the service.

Shocked neighbours rushed to help Pc Heffron, whose car careered sideways on the slippery Milltown Road at around 6.30am, half a mile from where he lived.

LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears has racked up millions of dollars in legal fees since the February 2008 beginning of her father’s co-conservatorship over her estate, according to new court papers acquired by Access Hollywood. The papers also give tremendous insight into the positive improvements made the star in the course of her recent life changes.

The Los Angeles Times was the first to break the news of the pop star’s hefty bills, which were tallied in court documents filed on Monday.

Since dad Jamie Spears became Britney’s conservator, she’s paid over $2.7 million in various lawyers’ fees and costs split between 17 different attorneys.
Amongst the costs — $160,000 initially paid plus additional payments for Jamie Spears, who serves as Britney’s personal conservator and the co-conservator of her estate; $409,849.21 to Andrew Wallet, of Hinojosa & Wallet, who serves as her estate’s other co-conservator; and hundreds of thousands of dollars to other attorneys regarding “Florida litigation,” “family law,” “First Amendment issues,” a “vehicle misdemeanor charge” and further legal matters.

Jamie Spears and Wallet were made permanent conservators on Oct. 28, 2008 after their previous temporary status.

The papers, which term the period from the beginning of the conservatorship to present day the “First Account,” note that Britney Spears has made great strides during the course of its 14 months, stating that “her physical and mental health continue to mend.” They also point out her increased visitation time with her two children and her renewed career success.

The papers acknowledged that they did not reveal the full scope of Britney’s wealth, noting that she has assets in, “various trusts and other states” not covered by the conservatorship as well as, “substantial interests in numerous business entities which are protected by trade secret,” which are not included in the documents.

Kelly Clarkson’s latest single may be called “I Do Not Hook Up,” but judging by her sexy video shoot, she may not be following her own rules.

“I go into fantasy mode,” Clarkson told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush. “So the girl that’s a good girl, in her fantasy, she’s always hooking up. I’m throwing guys around.”

And despite the title, the song isn’t just about not hooking up.
“Quality to quantity. That’s what the point of the song is,” she said.

Asked by Bush if the song is a notice to men who try to pick up women at bars, Clarkson said no.

Eventually we brought all media inside the club but the combination of poor lighting and Lohan and Ronson hiding from the media made it impossible for media to get photos. Anna Nicole Smith's Lawyers Ask Courts To Resolve Inheritance Case

Lawyers for Anna Nicole Smith have stepped up the ongoing battle over the late star's inheritance from her dead husband - asking the U.S. Supreme Court to finally resolve the dispute. Smith, who died in 2007 at the age of 39, was 26 when she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II in 1994. He died a year later and Smith claimed her husband had made an oral promise to give her half his estate.

Smith - who was born Vickie Lynn Hogan - battled her late spouse's son, E. Pierce Marshall, to be awarded $88.5 million of his fortune. But the money has been held up in the appeals court, with Pierce Marshall arguing that various wills and trusts his father had prepared over the years named him sole heir.

America's Supreme Court ruled in May 2006 that Smith could pursue her late husband's fortune in federal court. Pierce Marshall died a month later but the battle continued with the executors of his estate - and is still going on after Smith's own death, with her lawyers seeking the money on behalf of the star's two-year-old daughter Dannielynn.

And now Smith's lawyers have filed papers claiming the dispute needs to be settled soon as most of Marshall's $125 million estate is now owed to the Internal Revenue Service - and Smith's settlement risks being lost if it continues to be held up by the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The papers state, "Vickie's estate will undeniably suffer irreparable harm if the stay is not vacated, as Pierce's executor claims there is no money to pay the district court judgment, and Vickie's estate cannot pursue Pierce's missing billions unless and until the stay (hold on the money) is vacated."

Rihanna Told Police Of Past 'Fights' With Chris Brown

Rihanna has reportedly told police of two tussles with boyfriend Chris Brown prior to their alleged altercation last month. Brown has been charged with assault and making criminal threats after a bust-up with the singer during a late-night fight on February 8.

Rihanna was reportedly left with cuts and bruises and needed medical attention for her injuries. And she has since told cops it is not the first time the couple have been involved in a dispute, according to the New York Daily News.

A source tells the publication, "The first incident was in Europe about three months ago. It was a verbal dispute. She slapped him, he responded. He shoved her. There were no witnesses and no injuries."

The couple reportedly later fought in Barbados, with the source adding, "It was a fight over a Range Rover. She says he broke the window. Nobody was injured and it was not reported."

However, the source also denied reports Brown had physically attacked Rihanna in the past, calling the claims "absolutely inaccurate."

Britney Spears puts on "Circus" for comeback tour

Britney Spears kicked of her first tour in five years on Tuesday, promoting her latest hit album "Circus" before an adoring hometown audience with jugglers, acrobats, rings of flame and lip syncing.

"Britney's my girl. I knew she'd be great," said Chris Peterson, 28, who drove to New Orleans from Pensacola, Florida, for the concert. "I've been a fan since I was 14."

The pop star, attempting a comeback after a high-profile meltdown, pulled out all the stops before a sell-out crowd of 16,400 to launch her much-anticipated world tour.

Spears, 27, became a worldwide phenomenon when she burst onto the music scene 10 years ago after breaking into show business on the "Mickey Mouse Club" television show.

But she has done only a handful of live concerts in recent years as her personal life careered out of control, including stints in psychiatric care, an ugly divorce, losing custody of her two sons, shaving her head and partying without panties.

Back on stage, Spears looked fit and dazzling dressed as a ringmaster as she performed more than a dozen songs in a parade of skimpy costumes.

The launch of her 44-concert tour, which heads to Britain in June, was heavy on spectacle and was met with wild applause and cheers.

The circus-themed production featured Spears strutting and gyrating through extravagant sets on three stages, surrounded by dancers, martial artists and performers who dropped from the rafters on fabric streamers and mechanical rings.

Launching her tour in New Orleans gave Spears the chance to mount her comeback near her hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana.

She seems to have pulled herself together in the past year, with support from her father Jamie, who took control of her affairs in a court-ordered conservatorship after the singer's bizarre public behavior.

Spears has also focused on her family, spending more time with her children and insisting that her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden, be allowed to accompany her on tour.

Her return to the concert circuit and sales of her album appear to be a measure of her ability to still attract the attention she once garnered from fans around the world.

"Circus," her sixth studio album, debuted at No. 1 in the United States and five other countries when it was released in December and won her three MTV Video Music Awards.

But some fans at the New Orleans show were disappointed that she remained distant from her loyal supporters.

"I hoped she would talk directly to the audience, especially since this is her home, but she didn't say anything," said Kelly Dupont, who lives in nearby Baton Rouge.

New Orleans resident Stephanie Chandler, who saw a live performance by Spears eight years ago, was harsher.

"I was very disappointed. She's just not in it," Chandler said. "If you're going to lip sync, then you'd better bring on the dancing, but she didn't."

Rihanna takes out restraining order against flight of stairs

When a police photo of a badly bruised Rihanna first surfaced three weeks ago, the allegation were that she was beaten by her boyfriend, the singer Chris Brown. Fans reacted with dismay and outrage. But now reports say the pop sensation has reportedly gotten back together with Brown.

“I want to make it clear that injuries on my face were from a fall I suffered on the flight of stairs in Chris Brown’s house,” says Rihanna. “I’ve had issues with those stairs in the past, and I’m taking action. I’ve taken out a restraining order against those stairs.”

Rihanna is also trying to make sure such an incident doesn’t happen again.

“I’m taking a course on how not to be so clumsy. Part of this is my fault,” added Rihanna.

K-Fed Nominated 'Father of the Year'

T.I. ‘anxious’ about upcoming prison stint

Next month, rapper T.I. is set to begin serving a one-year prison stint for pleading guilty to weapon posession.

“I’m actually anxious, man,” T.I. said. “I’m eager to put this all behind (me) and move on with my life.”

One of the ways T.I. has made an attempt to move past his arrest is by reaching out to trouble teens via his MTV reality show, “T.I.’s Road To Redemption: 45 Days To Go.”

“I’ve always been passionate about sincerely wanting to help young kids in the inner city who ain’t found a way to help themselves here, you know,” T.I. said of doing the MTV series. “It’s more challenging than people … acknowledge… And me knowing that from experience, from being, you know, under those circumstances, I’ve always just had a place in my heart for (these kids).”

And although T.I., born Clifford Harris in Atlanta, Ga., a star once dubbed “the Jay-Z of the South” by Pharrell Williams, may have a year-long prison sentence ahead of him, he said he has already learned a lot.

50 Cent not laughing at Rihanna’s expense

The alleged assault Rihanna suffered at the hands of boyfriend Chris Brown is no laughing matter, according to 50 Cent. While the sentiment seems obvious, it marks a change of heart for the rapper, who mocked the incident in a video posted to his Web site earlier this month.

“I thought that was something that you could use for humor, like any other comedian or someone else would utilize current events,” he told MTV News. “After I saw the photographs of Rihanna, that wasn’t funny anymore.”

Apparently, 50 Cent originally envisioned the event as a mutual domestic disturbance, leading him to portray Brown and Rihanna as “Street Fighter”-like video game characters in his “Officer Ricky” animated Web series.

“There’s a point you’re already past a woman fighting you back,” he explained. “You look at (the photograph), and it obviously went past that point, so there’s some issues there that definitely gotta be addressed. Not to take any shots at Chris or Rihanna or to take sides in any way, but it’s really not cool. It’s not funny at all anymore. That’s why there won’t be no more references to that from me in any way.”

Pink 'really angry' over Britney tour plans

Pink has reportedly vowed to speak out against Britney Spears after hearing that the star has hired elephants for her forthcoming Circus tour.

The 'So What' singer is waiting to hear whether the rumours are true before going public with her disapproval, according to the Daily Star.

A source told the newspaper: "Pink is really angry at the idea of elephants being carted around on tour, especially with the loud music, lights and craziness that generally ensues on a tour of any kind.

"But she's waiting to see if the rumour about using animals is true and what Britney will be doing with the animals before judging."

Pink, who campaigns for the animal rights organisation PETA, used an elephant in one of her early music videos, but it is believed that she now regrets the decision.

The insider explained: "The elephant's trainer was making the elephant kneel on concrete and get up again and Pink went crazy. The trainer told her she enjoyed it but Pink said: 'Oh, so you actually speak to elephants then?'"

Star Of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ Slapped, Kicked By Father Following Return From Oscars

According to a report in a British paper, one of the child stars of “Slumdog Millionaire” was allegedly slapped and kicked by his father during an incident in India on Friday, just days after the young boy returned from his Los Angeles Oscars trip.

The UK’s Sun newspaper reported that Ismail, the father of Azharuddin Mohammed, who played the younger Salim (the brother of Dev Patel’s character, Jamal) in the Best Picture-winning movie, lashed out physically at his son for approximately 30 seconds in front of a crowd.

The father allegedly struck his son repeatedly when the boy, 8, grew tired after his long flight home from Los Angeles and chose to stop talking to a crowd that had gathered outside his home in the Dharavi slum in Bandra, Mumbai.

“I do not want to speak today to any reporters,” Azharuddin said, according to The Sun.

As the father reportedly hit the boy with his hands and feet, the child’s mother cried for her husband, 45, to stop, according to the paper.

“Azharruddin’s father was upset that he was asking to be left alone because he was tired,” an onlooker told the British paper.

“He didn’t attend school today so that he could recover from his long haul flight from LA and simply wanted all the attention to stop,” the onlooker continued. “However, when Azharuddin put his foot down and said that was it and there was to be no more talking, Ismail just flipped… It was like a scene out of ‘Slumdog Millionaire.’”

Photos of the boy following the alleged incident do not show any physical altercation between father and son. They do, however, show the young boy clutching his face. He also appears to be crying in the photos.

According to The Sun, Ismail apologized after the alleged incident.

“I was very sorry that I did what I did,” Ismail is quoted as having said. “I was so confused and stressed by my son’s homecoming that I did not know myself.”

A rep for Fox Searchlight, the studio which released “Slumdog Millionaire” and brought the movie’s children over for the Oscars, was not immediately available for comment.

Brad Pitt has been sent a chocolate award in the shape of his face. The "Curious Case of Benjamin Button" star received the 10lb solid dark chocolate figurine depicting his likeness to make up for losing out on an Oscar.

Brad lost out in the Best Actor category to Sean Penn, who portrayed a gay US politician Harvey Milk in biopic "Milk."

This isn't the first time Brad has experienced disappointment at the Academy Awards. In 1996, he was beaten to the Best Supporting Actor by Cuba Gooding Jr. for "Jerry Maguire."

Brad had been nominated for his acclaimed role in "12 Monkeys."

The pair have reunited almost three weeks after Brown, 19, allegedly battered the “Umbrella” singer on Feb. 8, a source tells PEOPLE.

“They’re together again. They care for each other,” says the source. The on-again couple are currently spending time together at one of Sean “Diddy” Combs’s homes.

Adds the source: “While Chris is reflective and saddened about what happened, he is really happy to be with the woman he loves.”

In its latest issue, PEOPLE reports that Brown called Rihanna on her 21^st birthday one week ago. “He called to wish her happy birthday,” a source told the magazine. “They’ve reached out to each other. It’s been mutual.”

Hathaway will play a woman who cancels wedding plans and breaks up with her seemingly perfect fiance so she can try to figure out who she really is. Her meddling parents try to patch things up between the pair, making it impossible for her to move on.

The movie “Marley and Me” is based on John Grogan’s bestseller book titled “Marley & Me.” The story is about a young couple, played by Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, who get married and begin their life together. John, played by Owen Wilson, wants to delay having children so he takes his friend’s advice and gives his wife Jenny (Jennifer Aniston) a Labrador puppy. The puppy is named Marley because the puppy enjoys Bob Marley’s reggae music. Marley & Me is a 2008 American dramedy film directed by David Frankel.
